MIT Researchers Have Invented the Strongest & Lightest Material Ever

Researchers of MIT have designed what could be the strongest material that ever known by man. This new material is 95% less density than steel and 10 times stronger. It designed by compressing and fusing flakes of Graphene, two-dimensional form of carbon to create new 3D structures.

In addition to being extraordinarily strong. This material is also incredibly light then others. This is due, in part, material is madeby extremely thin sheet of carbon atoms. and also to the large surface area of the designed according to demand of research.

These findings recently included in research paper published in very popular journal Science Advances. The research team submitted paper includes head of MIT’s Department of (CEE) Civil & Environmental Engineering, Markus Buehler.

The research reveals that crucial aspect of material is its unusual geometric configuration, rather than the material itself. This has pointed to possibility of scientists manufacturing other lightweight and strong materials, by creating similar geometric features. Beuhler states the following in this regard:

“You could either use the real graphene material or use the geometry we discovered with other materials, like polymers or metals … You can replace the material itself with anything. The geometry is the dominant factor. It’s something that has the potential to transfer to many things.”

Most important question is, maybe, whether this material will find practical usage in industries. On this stage, experts are confident; they think it could be open up the door for new hard-wearing materials for the everyday of use. This material will be widely use in several industries, including architecture and construction. It could also be a part of some filtration systems, for either water or chemical processing.
